Harbour View Hotel Restaurant Overview

The Harbour View Hotel, is the closest hotel to the Harbour Bridge and from our first floor table it was quite evident that this is no lie. The hotel is practically part of the bridge having had to relocate slightly further from their original site where now sits one of the brick pillars holding the bridge up. The Harbour Hotel has everything going on inside. The atmosphere was certainly lively, but the hotel restaurant donning a slightly more civilised atmosphere than the next door bar and balcony.
The hotel has had a recent renovation but is still reminiscent of the 30’s, with wooden panelling on the walls, antique china on ledges and a stags head above the fireplace, which was currently disguised as Rudolph with a fake red nose for Christmas. We were left perplexed at the miniature tea cup and saucer that sat where you would usually find your side plate until the waiter came and poured some beef consommé into them. A little shot of broth before dinner, what a great idea.
To start we had the garlic king prawns with salmon fish cake, salsa vierge and sauce gribiche and the House gazpacho. The garlic prawns were big and juicy and sat on a light salmon bed. For mains we chose the corn-fed chicken of the day which was chargrilled with Jamaican sweet flavours and rice and the pan roasted Muscovy Duck Breast, balsamic strawberries, sautéed savoy cabbage with oyster mushrooms and hoisin glaze. We finished the meal with a cocktail and the chocolate tart with vanilla mascarpone and chocolate sauce.
This is good honest food that surprises you at every turn. Both our starters and our mains were way above expectations and contained flavours that you would not see coming out of this kitchen. The downstairs pub and the bar opposite the restaurant were jam packed and raucous laughter came from the various function rooms. I certainly wouldn’t underestimate the Harbour View Hotel and would happily book my next birthday there. I think it would be brilliant and is like the owner says a ‘great place to meet, greet and eat.’

    Hidden jewel

    sally from Rockdale

We were a table of 16 and dinned in the restaurant, the restaurant team were friendly and professional and very accomoddating for our large group, we were very happy with the menu options and the feed back from the cocktail listing was also positive. It was a pleasant surprise to discover a hidden jewel in the heart of The Rocks and would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to our colleagues and friends.
